Leazes Homes is working in partnership with Your Homes Newcastle and Newcastle City Council on a new site in Throckley
Demand for diverse housing solutions in Newcastle has led construction specialist Keepmoat to secure a new mixed homes development in Throckley, which will provide housing for both first time buyers and older people.
Working in partnership with Leazes Homes, Your Homes Newcastle and Newcastle City Council, Keepmoat will deliver 45 two and three bedroom houses, plus 46 older persons’ apartments and four older persons’ bungalows.
The new development, worth £12m, comes as Keepmoat’s Wylam Park development in Lemington nears completion. In just 12 months, Keepmoat has built and sold all 33 exclusive properties, reporting unprecedented demand from aspiring buyers.
The new Throckley development is just one of a number of projects that Keepmoat has undertaken in Newcastle, with the firm investing over £186m in the city over the last few years; buoying the first time buyer market and creating a range of new jobs through the supply chain.
Ian Prescott, land and partnerships director for Keepmoat in the North East said: “We’re delighted to be partnering the Council, Leazes Homes and Your Homes Newcastle to realise the Council’s ambitions for Fairer Housing in Newcastle. This is another fantastic example of what Keepmoat in partnership can deliver.
“As well as supporting first time buyers to get on the housing ladder through schemes like Help to Buy, this new development will provide a range of housing and care solutions for older people and those with dementia; meaning we will meet a wide range of housing needs in the city.”
Bill Midgley, Chair of Leazes Homes, added: “Leazes Homes has a strong track record of working in partnership with Keepmoat and Newcastle City Council to realise our collective vision for the city. This development will follow that of Lawson House, our extra care scheme currently under construction in Byker, and will add to the fantastic supported accommodation available from Leazes Homes across Newcastle.
“As increasing numbers of people are diagnosed with a form of dementia and our population continues to age, it is vital that we have relevant accommodation and services in place to help. We’re particularly proud to be responding to the latest research around how design can support those living with this heart-breaking disease and hope to offer some comfort to those affected and their families.”
Work has now started on site with the first homes expected to be ready in the summer and Keepmoat urges anyone keen to find out more to register their interest online. For more information regarding Keepmoat, please visit keepmoat.com.
